Last week, at The Albany in Great Portland Street, Marcus Foster & Bobby Long played their last London shows before heading off to the US for their respective tours.
Marcus was on first and played an amazing set. He (and Bobby for that matter) seemed so much more relaxed than usual. The crowd were on fine form and I have to say that putting Marcus on before Bobby was a stroke of genius. They've played the same venue together a few times now, and when Bobby has been on first, a lot of the crowd left before they could witness the awesomeness that is Marcus. Which kinda shows that they're not really there for the music. Boo hiss to them!
Bobby then stepped up and it was definitely the best I've seen him so far. Again, he was really relaxed and in comical form.
Then, Marcus joined Bobby on stage for two songs - Crooked Sky and Sway So Softly, which they've just written together. It was just an amazing moment. I really have no words to describe how unbelievable it was. All of afterwards just couldn't speak. They have such amazing chemistry on stage.
So, if you're in the US, they're heading your way as I type (Bobby is literally on a plane!). Go see them! You will not be disappointed.
Dear Skanks who jumped Rob Pattinson yesterday,
If someone says that screaming fans freak them out and cause slight panic attacks, why the fuck would you think it’s okay to scream and jump on him? You really want to force someone to crouch in a doorway in order to calm down? Have you no respect for other people? And to the girl in the blue shirt that got a nice arm pinch by the security guard? I hope he breaks it if you ever get near him again.
Your mothers must be so proud.
I caught Marcus’ latest gig at the fantastic Albany pub in Great Portland Street last Saturday. I really do love The Albany. It’s a proper pub with wooden floorboards and a staircase leading to a dingy little room with rickety old wooden stools and really bad lighting. Just what a venue should be.
Marcus was on excellent form. Definitely the best I’ve seen him so far. He seemed much more relaxed and chattier than I've seen him in the past. Sam Harley was playing with Marcus, as always. Despite their obvious difference in ages, they gel together so, so well.
We were fortunate enough to get a new song, written in a field according to Sam, and it’s just beautiful. Hopefully, Marcus will put it up on myspace.
The setlist:
I Don’t Mind
In Your Head
Chase The Blues
New Song – Marcus didn’t give the title
Demons
Shadows Of The City
Kississaknife
Fourteen Times
Tumble Down
I’d not heard Chase The Blues or Demons before. Really, really like Chase The Blues.
And for all you TomStu fans - he was hiding at the back under a hoodie :)
Bobby played a fantastic homecoming gig last night at The Wilmington Arms. it was an excellent turn out - I swear more and more people turn up each time, which is never a bad thing (though I can do without some members of the audience pushing and shoving *stares meanly*)
The band before were running late, so he only got to play about 6 songs. I knew I should've written them down as I've totally forgotten what they were *blushes*. I'm so rubbish.
Afternoon to Afternoon was requested by someone and he played one line before announcing he'd forgotten how it LOL.
His cd was on sale :) I didn't pick one up as I didn't have enough cash on me, but will get one at tonight's gig. I think there are 10 songs on there. Some I've not heard before.
Also on the bill were the fantastic Alex Starling (who I've become a real fan of. plus he's a lovely bloke) http://www.myspace.com/starlingband and Flipron http://www.flipron.co.uk - go check them out.
I took a shameful amount of pics, and will upload them, plus the ones from tonight, at the weekend.
I went to see Bobby Long last (more on that later) and also on the bill were Flipron, a 4 piece band from Glastonbury on the West Country with a lead singer who looks like Tom Baker & Marc Bolan's lovechild. I'd not heard them before, but was mightily impressed.
Quirky lyrics about zombies and grandparents, with infectious tunes get a big old thumbs up from moi.
They're on a mini tour at the moment, promoting their new single Gravity Calling.
Marcus posted some US tour dates this morning

I popped along to The Alband on Saturday night to watch Bobby's last show before he headed off to the US on Sunday for a brief tour. He was on excellent form (which some of you in NYC will now know
) and seemed to be really looking forward to his trip to the States. I managed to jot down the set list this time:
The Bounty of Mary Jane
Being A Mockingbird
Left To Lie
This Strange Love
Two Years Old (written 2 days ago)
Dead and Done
Who Have You Been Loving (with Alex Starling)
Sorry for the crappy pics, but they were taken on the iphone and the lighting was pants (hence a sparkling Bobby). I promise to take my proper camera next time.
I'm so not showing Marcus the love he deserves, so promise to post more. Honest.
This is just lovely. *sigh*
If anyone's around this evening (and is reading this :) ), Marcus is performing at Ronnie's Bar, which is upstairs at Ronnie Scott's Club in Frith Street, London. The main act is on at 8.15pm (Marcus is second top), so he should be on around 7.45pm ish.

Haha. LOL.Did you make it? It was, err, good. You've read the books, haven't you? :) read more
